Rädicalisations

Core rule differences between Mörk Borg and Räd Borg.
Use this document to...

  • learn Räd Borg as a Mörk Borg player
  • adapt Mörk Borg content to Räd Borg
  • rädicalise Mörk Borg to make it looser and stupider
  • mörkicalise Räd Borg to make it darker and heavier

In general, Räd Borg characters are stronger and have more tools to survive danger. The rules changes allow the players to be a bit more reckless and hold on to their characters longer. Where Mörk Borg characters are disposable and their lives are cheap, Räd Borg characters are skater punk teens who are equally reckless and somehow manage to survive through sheer force of stupidity.

Lifeforms

Räd Borg introduces "lifeforms".
They add twists to healing and sustenance. This can be entirely ignored by just playing Mutants.
They act as a lightweight "class" system, and can be layered on top of existing classes that don't have bespoke sustenance and healing mechanics.

  • Mutants — analog to Mörk Borg player characters
    • consume water and snacks
    • restore health by healing
  • Dirtlings — plants and mushroom people
    • consume water
    • restore health over time
    • can consume snacks to boost healing
  • Robots — sentient robots
    • consume batteries
    • restore health by repairing
    • immune to infection
  • Cyborgs — somewhere on the spectrum between robot and mutant
    • consume water
    • consume snacks or batteries
    • restore health by healing or repairing

Mutants, dirtlings, and cyborgs start with a thermos.
Robots start with d4 spare parts.
Characters can choose whether to start with d4 snacks or d4 batteries.

See Rest, healing, and repair for the exact rules.

Abilities

Räd Borg players first generate four ability scores, and then assign them at will.

Standard arrays

Instead of rolling for ability scores, the player can choose to use one of the following "standard arrays":

  • Balanced: +1 / +1 / ±0 / ±0
  • Spicy: +2 / +1 / ±0 / -1

Rolling

Räd Borg uses the same table as Mörk Borg, but all four scores are rolled with 4d6 drop the lowest dice.

Roll 4d6, drop the lowest, and use the table to generate an ability score. Do this four times

  • 1-4: -3
  • 5-6: -2
  • 7-8: -1
  • 9-12: ±0
  • 13-14: +1
  • 15-16: +2
  • 17-20: +3

Assigning

Räd Borg allows players to assign their four scores at will.
To mörkicalise this step, shuffle the scores of a standard array or simply assign the rolled scores in order.

Flexes (Omens)

Räd Borg characters begin with Smarts (Presence) + d4 Flexes, this becomes their maximum.
Flexes are restored when resting, up to the character's maximum.

Bags and wheels

Characters roll for bags and wheels separately.
